THE RIGHT SIDE And Moses stood in the gate of the camp, and said, Who is on the LORDS side? Let him come unto me. And all the sons of Levi gathered themselves together unto him. Exodus 32:26 Being on the wrong side of life is very dangerous. Many things go wrong when you are not in the right place. My prayer for someone using this devotional is that you will never be on the wrong side of life in Jesus’ name. And if you are on the wrong side already, may the Lord move you to the right side of life in Jesus name. In the Bible reading for today, we need about the disciples’ encounter with the resurrected Jesus at the sea of Tiberias. They toiled throughout the night and caught nothing. When Jesus came to them, they did not recognize Him. Jesus teased them and asked “Children, have ye any meat?” The answer was obviously negative. When you are not where you should be, you are on the wrong side and this can bring untold sorrow and lack. The compassionate Jesus then issued a directive that they should throw their net on the “right side” of the ship for a catch. Amazingly, they caught a multitude of fishes. One lesson we must learn from this story is that every child of God must find out which is the right side to be. In Genesis, we read about the wrong side Lot went to when he separated himself from Abraham. “And Lot lifted up his eyes, and behold all the plain of Jordan, that it was well watered everywhere, before the Lord destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah, even as the garden of the Lord, like the land of Egypt, as thou comest unto Zoar. Then Lot chose him all the plain of Jordan; and Lot journeyed east: and they separated themselves the one from the other.” Genesis 13:10-11 Lot greedily chose the land that seemed good for his flock without considering his elder uncle who gave him the option to choose first. Unfortunately, it was the wrong side; it was a place that was marked for destruction, after Lot had become “successful”, the iniquity of that land brought total destruction upon it and Lot took nothing out of the land. As a matter of fact, he lost his wife in the land. “Then the Lord rained upon Sodom and upon Gomorrah brimstone and fire from the Lord out of heaven; And he overthrew those cities, and all the plain, and all the inhabitants of the cities, and that which grew upon the ground. But his wife looked back from behind, and she became a pillar of salt.” Genesis 19:24-26 Beloved, the side of the Lord is the right side. Jesus said: “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest.” Come to the Lord’s side today if you are yet to answer His call. Repent and accept Him as your Lord and Saviour. He will prosper you and give you all-round rest as He has promised. The first 15 are spent in childhood and early adolescence. Twenty years are spent in bed, and in the last five, physical limitations start to curtail our activities. That gives us about 30 years in which to live as adults. We take time out for eating, and for figuring our taxes, and we are down to perhaps 15 years. Now suppose we spend seven of those years watching television. That cuts us down to seven or eight years. Our time is short! The time we can invest for God, in creative things, in reaching our fellowmen for Christ, is short! Each hour of every day that is left of this earthly life, I would spend serving You, Lord Jesus. Prophets Of Wine And Strong Drink If a man walking in the spirit and falsehood do lie, saying, I will prophesy unto thee of wine and of strong drink; he shall even be the prophet of this people. (Micah 2:11) Research studies by one Paul Harvey, show that after drinking three bottles of alcohol, there is an average of 13 percent net of memory loss. After taking only small quantities of alcohol, trained typists were tested and their errors increased by 40 percent. Only one ounce of alcohol increases the time required to make a decision by nearly 10 percent; hinders muscular reaction by 17 percent; increases errors due to lack of attention by 35 percent. God's case against Israel and Judah was outlined in Micah's prophecy. Although he started out from the first chapter to lament over the sins of Israel, the people appeared very indifferent to his calls. They continued in their sins while their condition grew worse. From our text, the Israelites were preventing prophets from doing their work. They made themselves enemies of God by moving farther away from Him. They desired preachers who taught error and supported their appetite for strong drink and wine. Micah warned of God's impending judgment; even as he prophesied that the Lord will break them in pieces in His wrath. So-called Christians who drink alcohol have tarnished their testimonies to the world - as well as to those in the church. And the ones who are hurt the most by these compromised behaviours are children. Youths of this present generation are so far away from God that they consider even church attendance unnecessary. When a sinner knows and acknowledges his or her sinfulness, there is hope for restoration. But when they come to the point of willful disobedience and resisting every attempt to reprove them, their condition becomes pathetic. The world has fallen to its lowest state of depravity with the happenings we witness every day. Wise believers will firmly take a stand, never to be part of the world's depravity. The Heritage of the Believer No weapon formed against you shall prosper... (Isaiah 54:17, NKJV) As a believer in Jesus, you have certain privileges because you belong to Christ. When you chose Him, God put a blood line around you that the enemy cannot cross. As long as you’re keeping Him first place, you have a hedge of protection, a hedge of favor, a hedge of mercy surrounding you like a shield. When difficulties come, God says that because you’re His child, because you honor Him, even though that problem has formed, in the end it is not going to prosper. When it’s all said and done, it’s not going to harm you. God is going to turn it around and use it to your advantage. That’s your heritage as a believer! Notice it doesn’t say that we’ll never have problems. No, life is full of difficulties. The promise God is making to us is that when things do come against us, because you’re in covenant relationship with Him, you can stay in peace knowing that it is not going to prosper.
